2018 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

Eric Darmstadt

Eric Darmstadt was a 1987 Brookside High School graduate.
  • He served in the United States Navy from October 1987- October 1991.  Eric was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia aboard the USS Ticonderoga where he was a Fire and Damage Controlman.  Eric was deployed during Desert Shield in 1990.  When he returned from Desert Shield he married his high school sweetheart, Michelle.
  • After his honorable discharge he used the GI Bill to become an EMT and soon after Eric was employed as a paramedic and firefighter for the City of Sandusky.  This is where he made a home with his wife, Michelle and their two children, Emily and Benjamin.
  • Sadly and tragically, Eric was killed in a pedestrian/car accident on August 29, 1999.
  • Eric loved his children more than anything.  Eric passed on many of his special gifts to his children.  His height, his athletic talents, and his kind heart.  His daughter, Emily, who was often unsuccessfully recruited by school coaches to join volleyball or basketball, was a talented dancer from age 4 through college.  Eric’s son, Ben, choose a different athletic path.  Ben is a 2x state high school champion wrestler and Fargo National Champion, where he was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler.  Ben is finishing his freshman year at Cornell University where he earned All American status at the Division 1 NCAA wrestling tournament this March.  Whatever sport Eric was participating in he excelled, and his children have done the same.  Eric would be so proud of them.
