SMS teacher spotlight is proud to shine a light on Bill McPhie.  Bill is commonly known as “Father Flannigan” because he often provides advice to other staff members when they ask for it.  Bill is 57 years young and works great with young people.  Bill graduated from Lorain Catholic in 1970 where he had good grades and was also a honorable mention “All – State” offensive lineman in football.  He then attended Defiance College where he was a varsity letter winner in football and lacrosse.  Bill earned his B.A. from Defiance in 1975 to teach P.E. He later earned his Master of Science Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  Bill has been a teacher for 35 years and all 35 have been here in Sheffield.  He spent 13 years in the elementary schools here and 22 years here at Sheffield Middle School.

PAC CHAMPIONS!
The SMS 8th grade girls basketball team became arguably the best in SMS history as they beat a tough 14-1 Clearview team in the Patriot Athletic Conference title game 34-22 on January 13th.  The girls ended their championship season with a record of 14-1! They won their first round tournament game beating Oberlin 37-22!  Montana Banner and McKenzie Rozanc led the way with 8 points each, Erika Elias had 7, and Jaylenne Minnisale had 6. The girls upped their record to 12-1 and advanced to the 2nd round of the PAC tournament.
In the 2nd round, the team overcame a 4 point deficit with 2 minutes left in the game and scored 8 unanswered points to beat Keystone 26-22. Arianna Sanchez had 8 points despite getting whacked in the face multiple times.  Montana Banner had another huge game rebounding and also scored 6. Jaylenne Minnisale had 6 points.  The team, 13-1 on the season, advanced to the Championship Game against the 14-1 Clearview Clippers.
