DOUBLE REED PLAYERS-All double reed players should have at least two back-up reeds in their case at all times.
CLARINET AND SAXOPHONE PLAYERS-Need to have six reeds in their case at all times. DO NOT leave your reed on your mouthpiece when you are done playing, instead take it off, swab your mouthpiece out, and put your reed in a reed case. MOUTHPIECE SWABS AND REED CASES ARE A NECESSITY. THESE ITEMS CAN BE PURCHASED FOR A NOMINAL PRICE AT ANY LOCAL MUSIC STORE. RETTIG MUSIC IN WESTLAKE OFFERS ONLINE SHOPPING WITH DELIVERY FOR THESE ITEMS. IT IS UNSANITARY TO LEAVE A REED ON THE MOUTHPIECE ALL THE TIME AND IT WILL BE DETRIMENTAL TO GOOD MUSICIANSHIP TO USE A REED FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS.
BRASS PLAYERS-All tuning slides and valves on your instrument should be in working order. BUY A BOTTLE OF VALVE OR SLIDE OIL AND KEEP IT IN YOUR CASE. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OIL FOR PISTON VALVES AND OIL FOR ROTARY VALVES (TROMBONE, FRENCH HORN AND TUBA VALVES).I also recommend that you purchase a mouthpiece brush to use to cean out the shank of your mouthpiece. These are inexpensive and are available at any reputable music store.
PERCUSSION-You need to have a good set of snare sticks. 2A or 2B sizes are good. If you like another size clear it with Mr. Hildebrand before purchasing for use in class. |
