| The Enlightenment |
| The idea that people had certain "God Given" freedoms. The Enlightenment was also tied to the Scientific Revolution in that the Enlightenment thinkers tried to use science to discover the best political system, for example The Social Contract. The Social Contract was an an agreement between the the ruled and the rulers about who had what rights, for example, the government can't just impose a tax on the people arbitrialy, they must have the people's permission first. That's why we vote on tax levys for schools, sin taxes to build new football stadiums, and elect representatives who vote on national taxes. |
