School resumes on
Jan. 5, 2009 | | Math | Students have learned several "strategies" for subtraction including using the number line, using touchpoints, or using their fingers to help them count BACK.
Counting backwards from 100 is a skill students will need to master by the end of first grade. We will continue to practice subtraction (including story problems) after break. | | Mrs. Demian's Reading Group | |
Students were assessed on the first 10 weeks of word wall words this week in Reading. Everyone did a super job!!! Make sure to READ and return Two Crazy Pigs after vacation. | | Writing | We began paragraph writing this week with a 4-square. A "4-square" is a graphic organizer we use in first grade to help us organize our thoughts and writing. Our first 4-square is entitled "How to Make a Snowman". We will finish and edit these after break. | | Science | We completed our unit on Life Sciences and the needs of living things. Those tests are coming home in Friday's mail. When we return from vacation we will learn about the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. | | Our "Specials" Schedule | Monday-Gym (remember to wear tennis shoes)

Those interested should bring 50 cents in a bag or pouch with their name. | | 9/18/2008 12:00 AM | | Weekly Mail | Every Friday students will empty their mailbox at school. They will bring home graded papers and handouts. Please SIGN and RETURN the pink "Friday Papers" sheet that comes home with their mail. This is a routine that will continue throughout the school year. Continue to check their blue folder nightly for homework and other flyers.
