| Social Studies | During the month of September, we will focus on what it means to be a good citizen. We will discuss fairness and why rules are important. We will also learn the American Symbols. |
| Math | We have begun exploring the different math tools we will use in first grade. Students have looked at pattern blocks, power polygons, geoblocks, and interlocking cubes. Ask your child to tell you their favorite one. |
| Star Student | Each student will have the opportunity to be the "Star Student" for a day during the month of September. The class then has the opportunity to interview the Star Student to find out more about them. Your child will bring home a book of pictures drawn by their classmates on their special day. This is an opportunity for the students to get to know one another. It also serves as a model for writing. The teacher writes an "article" about each star student that is displayed in our classroom. |
| Reading | For the next few weeks, we will be reviewing letters and letter sounds in our "Start Smart" workbooks. Once complete, I will send these books home with your child. I will speak more about regular Reading homework which will begin the week of Sept. 20th. |
