Tennyson to Offer Before and After School Latch-Key Program

Tennyson Elementary is proud to partner with the YMCA of Greater Cleveland to offer a special before and after school latch-key day care program.  This program will be offered for the start of the 2008-09 school year on a daily basis from 7:00-8:15 in the morning, and after school from 3:15-6:30.  Additional information about this special partnership is available in the Tennyson Elementary Office.

State Designates Tennyson a "School of Distinction"

State Superintendent Susan Tave Zelman recognized Tennyson Elementary for our selection into the 2006-2007 State Superintendent's Schools of Distinction Recognition Program.  This award bestowed on Tennyson recognizes the high achievement of all students on the 2006-07 Ohio Achievement Test.  This past year, over 75 percent of all students, including students in our special-needs community scored proficient or above on the 3rd grade Ohio Achievement Test in reading and mathmatics.  Tennyson Elementary was honored at the Office for Exceptional Leadership Conference on January 16 as Lorain County's only school to recieve the "School of Distinction" recognition.  Congratualtions to the students, parents, and staff of Tennyson Elementary for an outstanding job!

Should I Keep My Child Home From School Today?

As the weather starts to turn, we are noticing an increase in students being sent home during the school day with a variety of illnesses.  To help determine when to send your child to school and when to keep them at home, the Lorain County Health Department suggests the following-
Students should be kept home if he/she has:
A severe cough, an undetermined rash, a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, diarrhea, a sore throat with difficulty swallowing, head lice, vomiting during the past 24 hours, and red, watery, itching eyes.  Students should also be kept at home if the child has not been free of elevated temperature for a full 24 hours.
The above symptoms/conditions may mean the start of an illness that could affect many other children in your child's classroom.  Many of these illnesses require 24 hours of antibiotics before a child would not infect other children.  Please contact the school office if you have any questions.
