Mrs. Schremp

6th Grade

Science in January
We will begin focusing on Earth science standards.  Chapter 10 deals with forces shaping Earth.  We will then move on to chapter 11, which covers weathering and erosion.

January 12th in Language Arts
Our next in class novel will be S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders.   The Outsiders, from the beginning to the end, is centered on the gang rivalry between the underprivileged Greasers from the east side of town and the rich Socs from the west side. In particular, the plot is about the development of one of the Greasers, Ponyboy Curtis, as he journeys down a path of self-discovery.

Sciencein December
During the month of December we will begin using our "Mastering the Ohio Grade 8 Science Achievement Test" workbook.  The content from this workbook is aligned with Ohio standards and is a wonderful resource to prepare for the OAT.  Please make sure your child is completing their assignment.  We will also be using this workbook later in the school year.

Language Arts in December
During the month of December your child will be working on writing a children's story.  Each student has selected a stuffed animal from the shipment we received directly from the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.  Your child will be composing a children's story about their stuffed animal.  The book and animal will then together be donated to a child in a local hospital.  If you have given permission via the technology usage form that was distributed in late August, I will post your child reading their story to this website once we complete the project.
