William Barr News
"We Remember Them"
Today at William Barr Elementary, we started our day at 9:03 with a moment of silence in observance of those we lost on 9/11. Our Village Mayor and councilman, Kevin Watkinson were in attendance with us. Mayor John Hunter joined us in the reading of a poem in remembrance of the Children of 9/11, “We Remember Them”. After reading the poem our current leader, Mayor John Hunter and Councilman Watkinson joined with our future leaders, President Morello, Officer DeLuca and Officer Haffner in a reflective walk. After the reflective walk we signed a poster saluting our firefighters, police and EMS personnel. Barr Elementary would like to recognize the Mayor and Councilman Watkinson for participating in the event and donating the flags.

A Letter From Your New Principal
Dear Parents,

I would like to start off by welcoming you to the 2014-2015 school year!

Some of you may be interested in knowing a little bit about me. I was born and raised in the Former Republic of Yugoslavia. I studied law at Prishtina Law School in Kosovo in 1992, but was interrupted by the 1992 civil war. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University, master’s degrees from Baldwin Wallace University and Norwich University and completed the principal’s certification program at Muskingum University. I am currently completing my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership and Transformational Change at Concordia University.

I have worked for Avon Lake City Schools since 2000 as an intervention specialist, credit recovery coordinator, advised the mighty ALHS Key Club (a Kiwanis-sponsored social service organization), and maintained the school’s web page. I am the past president of the Rocky River Kiwanis Club and Community Resources Services. Currently I serve as President of Camp !magine, a nonprofit organization that provides extended schools year services and recreational activities for students with special needs and teach graduate classes at Baldwin Wallace University.

I have a wonderful daughter. Elisabeth is fifteen and is starting high school this year.

Having the opportunity to work with the dedicated staff and parents in the Sheffield Lake - Sheffield community is truly a dream come true! The more time I spend at Barr and Tennyson the more impressed I have become. The staff and parents I have met are friendly, hardworking, and genuinely care about the students and our community. The new school year is just around the corner, and I am eager to get it underway! I am looking forward to having the building full of students and staff and all of the energy they will bring. If you are in the building, please stop by my office for a visit!

Consider getting involved with the new SOS (Students of Service) club we are starting this year. We can use volunteers at school all the time. We will be happy to help you find an area you can help out in!

I consider it a pleasure and privilege to be a part of your child’s education. Please contact our school office if you ever have a question, concern, or comment.
